FAQs
What is your service area?
I help people declutter and organize primarily in San Luis Obispo County.
What does a professional organizer do?
As a Professional Organizer, I do anything from improving your current home to helping you transition to a new one. I love helping people make the most of their space. I organize garages, sheds, pantries, kitchens, bedrooms, offices, guest rooms, closets, play rooms, living rooms, laundry rooms, and more. Downsizing, getting ready to stage a home for sale, setting up your new home, getting ready for baby, or something else? I can help! My clients are always thrilled that I haul away and mindfully dispose of decluttered items, even tricky items like old medications, e-waste, dead batteries and lightbulbs, and even ammo!
How much does a professional organizer cost?
I charge by the hour at a rate of $100/hour for in-home areas and $125/hour for garages and outdoor spaces like sheds. There is also a travel fee added for projects located beyond 30 minutes travel time and a $25/hour weekend fee. My pricing is “all inclusive”. I don’t charge for hauling away your decluttered items or for common items we might use during your session (like bags, cord organizers, Command hooks, and the like). If products (bins, baskets, etc) are needed to complete your project, I do not charge for my time to source the products and I do not up-charge the items. You will only pay for the items themselves, at cost. Additionally, you don’t have to commit to a certain number of hours or buy an expensive “package”. I know that sometimes cancellations are unavoidable so I do not charge for last minute cancellations. If you aren’t feeling up to decluttering and organizing, you shouldn’t have to pay for it!
Do you do free consultations?
Yes! I would love to come take a look at your space and see if I am a good fit for your project! Consultations are always free. If you live more than 30 minutes away, we will schedule a phone consultation.
Do I have to clean up first?
Cleaning up is not necessary! It helps me get a feel for how you naturally place things in your home.
How does the process work? Do I have to be there?
In most cases, we will work together to transform your space. It is not usually necessary for you to be there for the entire process. For example, I can work independently to sort items in the space and then do the final organization. You will be required to be part of the decluttering process as I cannot decide what is or is not important to you. The decluttering can be done on your own time if you prefer, although oftentimes it is beneficial for me to assist in this step of the process.
Do I have to get rid of everything?
I will not make you get rid of anything you want to keep! I help you work through your items and decide which things are worth keeping to YOU. With my guidance, we will decide what you want to make space for in your home and what things you’d rather clear out to help you keep the space tidy.
What do you do with the stuff I don’t want? Do you haul away donations?
Yes! I handle removing donations as well as hard to get rid of items that need special disposal (paint, dead batteries and bulbs, old cleaning supplies, old medicines, e-waste, etc.)
How long does it take?
In general, an “average” room can be decluttered and organized in roughly 10 hours, spread over 2-3 days. Obviously this is going to depend on how much stuff is in the room and how quickly you are able to make decisions during the decluttering process.
Do I have to buy baskets or bins or other storage items?
I prioritize using the items you already have. Most of my clients end up with too many storage bins and baskets that we end up donating. If we do need to buy some bins or baskets, I can handle that for you. This will be determined once any decluttering is done so that we can make informed decisions about the number and type of storage to buy. I do not mark up “product” You will be billed for the actual item cost.
Are professional organizers certified or insured?
There are professional organizations which offer certifications for an annual fee to which I do not subscribe. I do have liability insurance coverage.
